A: AIOA (American International Online Academy) is a Web based online K-12 school based in Utah.
A: If you are a student that is looking to attend an American curriculum based school, you can attend AIOA. Enrollment is open to students both worldwide and in the United States. AIOA offers flexibility to students that may have illnesses or other limitations as well as students that may need a more accommodating schedule. Many of our students travel frequently and AIOA offers that flexibility for them. As long as a student has Internet access and a computer, they can complete their work for AIOA. A home-based education alleviates many problems that come from the 'traditional' school setting, including but not limited to bullying, exposure to inappropriate pressures, etc. AIOA offers a less expensive alternative to many of the programs that have been established over the years, and we are confident that when you have become acquainted to the high standards that we set for our students, you will find that this is a valuable and effective learning environment.
A: Because AIOA is a Web based school you will need to have high speed Internet access available to you.
A: A computer is required to access the courses that are available to you through AIOA. You will need to have a Word Processing program available to you as well to complete some of the necessary assignments for your courses. If you are taking computer classes you will need to have Microsoft Office 2002 or later .
A: Your education is of the utmost importance to us at AIOA. We value the opportunity that we have to teach each and every one of our students. Because of this we only hire teachers that are caring, qualified, certified and licensed teachers. Your teachers will have experienced background and training in the online capacity as well.
A: Because AIOA is a worldwide school there is going to be time differences between countries. Almost all of your teachers will be living in the United States and will have office hours that are conducive to their schedules. However appointments can be made to contact your teacher and you will find that most of your teachers are very flexible with their schedules so that they can meet your individual needs. You will also have e-mail access to your teachers at any time of the day or night.
A: Our teachers use telephone and e-mail to contact their students. Many of our students and teachers are using SKYPE, which is a free VOIP (Voice over IP) calling system that can be used on your computer to call anywhere in the world. This system is not available in some countries, so please check to ensure that your country has access to SKYPE if you choose to use this computer VOIP feature. To download this program go to www.skype.com and follow the instructions there.
A: Our curriculum is very inclusive of all material; however, in grades K-3 each student should have reinforcement and more hands-on instruction to be successful. Because AIOA is an individualized learning system each student will learn at a different rate or capacity. Some of our students may have special needs or circumstances that will require a parent to be more involved in their learning process. With some students needing more parental involvement than others, be advised that this curriculum is all inclusive with certified instructors.
A: AIOA feels that a student's success is the most important aspect of our school so we offer an alternative resource to communities. If there are more than 100 students in a particular community we will facilitate setting up a learning center. This is a wonderful opportunity for a community to have a flexible alternative to the traditional 'brick and mortar' school. We would need your community to provide a building with utilities, high speed Internet, restroom facilities and computers for 30 students at any given time. We use this figure because it has been our experience that not all students use the learning center at the same time, however, if your community feels like more students will use the learning center we can arrange to set that up as well. Learning centers are most effective when managed by a mentor. This can be a hired individual or can be managed by parental assistance, and AIOA will facilitate training the mentor(s) of your choice. This allows the students an alternative to working strictly from home if they so desire.
A: With the completion of the required courses for our school's standards, each student will receive an accredited high school diploma.
A: The registration process can be found on the registration page of this site. If you have any questions at all about registering for AIOA please call the numbers provided and a member of our office staff will be happy to answer those questions for you.
